One of Cao Cao's most trusted officers. During a battle against Lü Bu, he was struck in the left eye by a stray arrow. According to the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, he swallowed the eye and continued fighting.
Although best known as a military general, Xiahou Dun was also an accomplished civil administrator. As Marquis of Gao'an, he responded to a severe drought by damming the Taishou River and personally carrying soil to promote rice cultivation.
